Beat-Matched Video Transitions

Transcript

Hello fellow editors! Let’s create music-driven transitions in Premiere Pro, leveraging the power of SoundXtract. The end result can look like this when applying a zoom video transition:

Seamless, professional-looking transitions synced to the music.

Overview

In a previous video, we demonstrated how to sync cuts to the rhythm of music. Those were hard cuts, where one clip replaced another. Now, we’ll take it further by adding transitions that match these cuts using audio-reactive effects.

Steps to Create Music-Driven Transitions

1. Set Up the Clips

  • Load SoundXtract to begin.
  • Use the automated beat-synced placement feature to place clips in the sequence, as demonstrated in the earlier tutorial.
  • Note the audio detector settings used during clip placement.
  • Click “Commit” to finalize the cuts, freeing the plugin for transitions.

2. Prepare for Transitions

  • Reapply the same audio detector settings as before.
  • Add an adjustment layer above the video clips and stretch it to cover their length.
  • In SoundXtract, click audio-reactive effects.

3. Apply Transition Effects

  • Add the “Transform” effect to the adjustment layer and select it in SoundXtract’s audio-reactive effects wizard.
  • Configure the settings:
    • Set “During Sound” to 0.
    • Adjust “Before” and “After” to around 170 milliseconds.
  • Verify the transitions look good, then click “Commit” to finalize.

Why SoundXtract Stands Out

The magic created with SoundXtract isn’t a black-box effect. All operations are native to Premiere Pro, meaning you retain complete creative control. You can either use the high-quality results generated by SoundXtract or further customize them to make them uniquely yours. This flexibility is why SoundXtract is a tool for professionals.

4. Fine-Tune the Transitions

  • Smooth the transitions by editing the keyframes:
    • Adjust the interpolation type to ensure both sides of the transition accelerate into it.
    • Replace the generated keyframes by copy-pasting them as needed.
