Clap-Color Mapping

Transcript

Introduction

Hi, Jonathan from SoundXtract here! Today, I’ll show you how to synchronize background color changes to the sound of claps in Premiere Pro, all in under 5 minutes. Here’s how it will look:

Steps to Achieve the Effect

1. Set Up Your Sequence

  • Add your video and music to the sequence.
  • Open SoundXtract and click “Start” to analyze the music.

2. Analyze the Music

  • Once SoundXtract finishes analyzing, click “Continue”.
    • This will create a region of interest in the first few seconds of the music clip.

3. Create a Rectangle

  • Use the Rectangle tool to draw a rectangle over the video clip.
  • Blend the rectangle with the video track below it using the “Darken” blending mode.
    • This ensures the darker elements of the video (e.g., the dancer and background) are preserved while the lighter colors (e.g., the fog) are affected.

Why Use “Darken”?

The “Darken” blending mode keeps the darker colors intact while allowing lighter colors, like the fog, to change based on the sound.

4. Target the Sound

  • Focus on the right sound—claps and cymbals in this case.
  • Forget manually drawing squares in a frequency analyzer; it’s time-consuming and inaccurate. Instead:
    • Click “Snares and Cymbals” in SoundXtract.
    • Output the visualization to verify the timing.

5. Add the Effect

  • Adjust the rectangle’s opacity:
    • Set it to 0 by default.
    • Increase it to 50 (or your desired value) whenever the sound hits.

Fine-Tune the Timing

  • Play with the timing settings in SoundXtract to synchronize the colored pulses perfectly with the claps.
